Refund & Dispute Policy
Last updated: October 17, 2026
MemberSplit collects each member's share of a shared subscription and pays it to the group's organizer, through our payment processor, Stripe. Groups are invite-only — organizers invite people they already know and already share that subscription with. This page explains what happens if a charge needs to be refunded, or if you don't recognize or disagree with a charge.
1. Contact us first
If a charge looks wrong, before anything else, email info@membersplit.app with the group name and the date of the charge. Most issues — being charged after leaving a group, a group's total changing without notice, a duplicate charge — are something we can look into and correct directly, usually faster than a bank dispute. Contacting us first does not use up or waive your right to dispute a charge with your bank or card issuer.
2. Refunds
- We don't currently offer self-serve, automatic refunds in the app. Email us and we'll review the charge and, where a refund is warranted, issue it back to the original bank account or card.
- Refunds we approve are returned through Stripe to whatever payment method was originally charged. Bank (ACH) refunds can take several business days to post; card refunds typically post faster but timing is ultimately set by your bank or card issuer, not by us.
- The MemberSplit platform fee is only waived for a member's first month; it is not refunded for months after that solely because a member decides to leave.
- We don't control, and can't refund, the underlying subscription itself (e.g. a streaming or software plan) — that relationship and its own refund terms are between the group's organizer and that third-party provider.
3. If you dispute a charge with your bank or card issuer
You always have the right to dispute a charge directly with your bank or card issuer instead of, or in addition to, contacting us. If that happens:
- Stripe notifies us of the dispute, and we respond with records showing the charge authorization you gave when you joined the group (the agreement you accepted on the payment setup screen) and the group's billing history.
- Disputes are decided by your bank or card network, not by MemberSplit or the group's organizer — we can provide evidence, but we don't control the outcome or its timeline.
- A pattern of disputes on a group can result in that group being paused while we look into it, to protect the organizer and other members.
4. Organizer payouts and disputes
If a member's payment is reversed — by a failed bank debit, a returned card charge, or a dispute — after it's already been paid out to the organizer, we may need to recover that amount from a future payout or ask the organizer to repay it directly. We'll always tell the organizer why before doing either.
